VISITING BUDAPEST: TRAVEL TIPS
SEE THE SIGHTS
Take a walk from St. Stephen's Basilica in Pest towards the Danube River and across the bridge to Buda. Buda Castle is a must for the history buffs, but even just for the grounds alone. Walk up to the Fisherman's Bastion for some breathtaking views of the city - worth the hike up the hill! From there, cross the river towards town and walk round the Hungarian Parliament for the stunning architecture.
DRINK UP
Budapest is renowned for its urban ruin bars; creative and cobbled-together pubs in old warehouses or historic buildings. Hit one of the original ruin bars in the Jewish Quarter, Szimpla Kert.
Boutiq Bar for delicious cocktails and free popcorn with your drink.
Hotsy Totsy has a prohibition-era speakeasy vibe with another hidden bar inside.
DIG IN
Horizont Cafe for great coffee and brunch in an old cinema lobby.
New York Cafe is a little pricey but worth it for the beautiful and ornate interior.
For amazing and authentic Hungarian food and music, book yourself into Pörc & Prézli Étterem (the duck and cauliflower mash was delicious!).
